Two hours north of Wilmington is the Croatan NF and the Neusiok Trail where I hike and hang out in my hammock.

About 3 hours north west of Wilmington is Uwharrie NF and the Uwharrie Trail and Dutchman's Creek Trail. Great place to hike and camp.

Then there are the mountains of GA, SC, NC and TN with too many places to hike and camp to list here.

All NC state parks that allow camping also allow hammocks. However not all of the state parks have the trees needed to hang a hammock.
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !

Thanks gunner! Sounds like I'll have plenty to explore.

Just make sure they allow hammock hanging in Pisgah National Forest. I've heard that they don't allow that. HYOH though. For 2018 I am definitely going to invest in a hammock stand for such unfortunate car camping situations. I won't backpack camp in places that don't allow hammocks.

Thanks. Good to know. I don't even own a tent any more so I'm the same way.
