That hose device is pretty gross! The only time I wish for a solutions is when it's below freezing and I really don't want to get out of my warm hammock. As I get older I find I go more than once. I remember when I was young I never got up in the middle of the night. Ahh, youth.

I've been going off the side intuitively since I started hammocking. Once the idea occurred to me the first night I woke up to nature's call, I've never gone back. Personally, I find it dead easy to roll the hammock back and let 'er rip. Many dozens of times on camping trips and no odor or wet gear. IMO, it isn't that hard to do 'correctly' and beats the hell out of putting on shoes, getting cold, and stomping off to a tree somewhere.

Caveat: I'm almost always alone and off trail. The few times I've been at a campground in close proximity to other people I've used the facilities as 'normal'.

I usually keep a Gatorade bottle with me in the cold weather and just lay on my side over the side of the hammock. Warm weather I just get up.

Really Karla!!!! Do the come in red also?

On a serious note, count me as one of the “get up and goers”. Laying in the hammock and smelling #1 or #2 ain’t no good.

I might even try spelling “Shug” in the snow one morning at 0300. Be easier then my name and could probably stand in one spot.

Another "get up and goer" here. I usually wake up 1-2 times throughout the night any way so I just use that opportunity to get up and find some where to go. On clear nights it's also a good excuse to go stargazing if I don't have a great view from the hammock.
