    Arrrrggghhhhhh

    Hammock Fail-
Ended up on my arse Saturday & dorked up my back!
My hammock failed while I was in it. {ENO Single} I was in my back yard and the drop was not far lucky for me.
No warning....just a rip and on the ground I am. Sadly I lost & wore a full Ballast Point Water Melon Dorado Beer. Doh.
    I salvaged my whoopie slings.
BTW- Im 5’10”, 180# and take care of my stuff. This hammock was a few years old but put away after each hang. No shoes ever in hammock.
Anyone have a hammock fail for no reason??

I don't care for ENO hammocks, but I haven't heard of many failures. ENO hammocks are a bit short for your size; you might want to check out an 11 ft. Dutch netless hammock (on sale for $30 right now). I've been using one for years.

Sounds like you might have had it hung too tight. Optimum angle is 30 degrees. Any shallower and your suspension will see more than your body weight.

    There's always a reason...

Somehow, some way, your hammock fabric was damaged. Just a tiny nick is all it takes to create a stress riser.

Failures are rarely reported on here so either hammock last or people do not report the failures. Get you a good hammock this time and this shouldn't happen if hung correctly.

    Short answer, yes.

The reason- I didn't check to make sure the Whoopie Sling was attached at the knot after a windy afternoon. Always check the connection before you get in.

Also- when mocking a hammock using different connection techniques, the stress pulled the cord off the hammock end because I didn't secure it correctly.

But no- I haven't had a hammock rip on me.

You didn't tell us where it ripped, the condition of section where it ripped, or the material that actually ripped. Was it at the triple stitch? The hem? The thread? The hammock body?

Also, make sure you have absolutely nothing in your pockets or have studs(think jeans) or buttons that can damage the hammock body.

The bright side....Time for a new, updated hammock
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

Sorry to hear about the loss of your Ballast Point....and the Eno. My first hammock was an Eno and I still use it from time to time as my beach lounging hammock.

Agreed--the new fabrics will fail in a safer manner. The quality hammocks made of Ripstop and other high quality materials are worth the extra cost--especially when considering the consequences of a fall. I haven't looked up what Eno uses for a fabric but I assume it is a simple parachute fabric and it is not woven to retard a tear once is starts--this is consistent with your account of how yours failed. Wish your dorked up back fast healing.

I think the failure was caused by the extra weight of the beer in your hand.
