Camping quilt vs catsplat's UQ calc

My wife is basically a walking ice cube. She wants me to make US a camping quilt that we would be using only for tent camping. I've used catsplat's UQ calculator in the past to make a down blanket that was 2" baffles and 3" chamber height. What I'm looking at now is a quilt 80x88" with ~2lbs of down from Rose Feather. I'm curious if anyone can help me out here with the baffle/chamber height on this calculator specifically as it pertains to accuracy of temp rating. I know I need to take the calculator with a grain of salt, but just for funsies I upped the baffle and chamber heights to 5 inches, up from 2 and 3 inches respectively, and my temp rating jumped from 3F to -64F. Does this sound accurate for a quilt of 80x88" and a height of 5"?

I may have solved my own problem. The calculator changes the oz of down fill based on chamber volume and overfill % instead of taking a static weight of down as a parameter.

I don't know anything about making down quilts, I do know a bit about cold women.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that you could make the quilt 12" thick using so much down that all these geese in North America are shivering....and she will still be cold.

Are those numbers actually for the total loft, or baffle height?

It says Loft Height. That is what I go by so baffle may need to be a bit larger.
I did not create the graph though.

Animal does have a point. As much as I hate to admit it.

WHY your wife is cold is the key on how to get her comfortable.

If your body is not making heat, no matter how much insulation you use, the body will not warm up. From personal experience I know that is true. When my parent was getting close to death, warmth was difficult to obtain. Getting the body to a comfortable temp. was very difficult. Add on external heat was necessary.

For reasons I am not sure of, I have periods where my system does not generate heat. Coats, socks, hats nothing except external heat packs get me warm enough to function. Once my system starts working again, I warm up like normal folks do. Not sure if it is my low heart rate, blood pressure or whatever. I do know only external heat gets me warm, when my core temperature drops. The rest of the time just adding a coat or sweater does the warm up.

On my quilts I use a 4.5 inch baffle on my UQ. Works for me, probably over kill for most, I like warm under me, less warm on top.

Aye, the calculator was intended to be set up for a certain design and then output what amount of down you would need to fill it - starting with a set down weight and then back-designing is a bit unusual, haha. Nothing I'm sure you couldn't achieve with some guess-and check!

The temp rating system works pretty well for the more common lofts and fills, but it breaks down when you get really extreme with the design.

An integral part of determining the baffles is the fill power being used .... without that, you can't start figuring this out.
