Where to buy Amsteel or Dyneema rope?

    Hello All,
Been reading some good things about the Amsteel and Dyneema rope...

•Curious to see where to buy 100'?
•Which is more durable- Dyneema or Amsteel?
•Which is lighter weight- Dyneema or Amsteel?
•What diameter to buy for hammock lines or rope to use for making a DIY shelter or rope ladder?
    •Any other comments or concerns?

    Thanks in advance.

Dyneema is a trade name for UHMWPE. Amsteel is a brand name. Amsteel is made of dyneema fibers.

For most hammock purposes, either 7/64" or 1/8" is popular.

A good source is Redden Marine. There is an HF discount code.

Your local Arrowhead Equipment has it in stock by the foot.
Amsteel is made from Dyneema fibers, just a brand name. So weight comes down to size rather than name. Rope ladder? do tell more. 1/8th inch should be plenty strong at 2500 pound tensile strength, but 7/64 is rated to 1600 and will work for hammock suspensions as well.

    Hello pgibson,
Thanks also for your quick reply.
Yes, I'm looking to test hanging my hammock higher up in the trees. (you know, to avoid grizzly bears and just have a birds eye view of the surrounding wilderness.)
Looking to test some ideas this summer. Will love to post some pics and review of these ideas.

Ordered some 1/8 amsteel from AHE at 2 am this morning and it was shipped this morning. I dont know anything about Redden Marine, but I am positive that AHE is good to deal with. I have ordered several things from them and have several more in mind that will be ordered soon.

    Just my .02 cents.

I think many have had good experiences with Redden. That being said, I should have recommended AHE in my original reply since he's an active member here. I simply forgot AHE sold it. Mea culpa.

    Hey bhancock,
Thanks also for the reassurance with AHE.
I should be more patient with the replies. I immediately ordered from Redden Marine after Angrysparrow's post.

Anyways.. can't wait to test this stuff out! Thanks for all the replies!

Has anyone else tested hanging their hammock higher in the trees?
(Maybe this should be a new post.)

Redden Marine should do you well also. I ordered from them and I'm happy with their service. The guy (Craig, I think) is a member here too, just not an active one. I think he got on here to see what it was all about when several people were recommending and buying from them. That was all before AHE.

2trees, I think that Ed Speers talked about have to hang high in trees in his book. This is a vague thought but I think you can read more on his website - plus there is his book too.
