I have a couple of 401a Singer machines and they work great. Neither are in a table, but I picked the 1st one up for $50 from Craigslist and the 2nd one was $10 from a Goodwill store outlet.

Edit:
I forgot to hit submit and when I did , I saw that you picked up a 403a. That's going to do everything you need it to do. I've even made backpacks with my 401a.
