I've hung the hammock in an interstate median before. It was loud, the highway was busy that night. Terrible sleep, I don't recommend it.
Another time a few years ago, pitched the hammock like a bivy off a barbed wire fence just outside what turned out to be the north entrance of White Sands Missile Range. Thought I heard some strange noises that night, turned out to be my tinnitus.
Most recently, got lost in Florida looking for a place to hang. It was around midnight, finally just pulled a ways off the road, hung the hammock, and went to sleep. When I packed up the next morning and rode out, I saw signs stating in large unfriendly letters "No entry, bombing range" or similar. Oops.
I try not to set up after dark anymore.

The world would be a lot less grumpy if we all slept in hammocks.
There are some great looking sites in medians, and some medians are really wide, giving you a chance to get away and out of sight of the road. There are no fences to deal with, either. The worst thing for me was the traffic noise.
I also camped in a large roundabout in a small town once. That was actually nice.

Since I tend to be a good boy most of the time, I have nothing to add to this thread. However, I am enjoying everyone's stories and find it fascinating that anyone in their right mind would camp in a highway median. Lol!

i stealth camp with the hammock in my backyard and the neighboring woods at times.
In the middle of a mountain bike festival in the desert. I brought my hammock stand and setup everything under a trap. People saw the tarp and stand, but had no idea I was asleep underneath it. One person asked if I was using it as a changing room to get into my MTB clothing. Good times.

Since the statutes of limitations have expired, I admit to having stealth camped in various wooded locations while biking along the Blue Ridge Parkway, albeit not with a hammock.
