My first quilt was a 3/4 and my second quilt was a full length. Will never own a 3/4 again. Just not my cup of tea I guess. I too sleep cold and found that trying to use a sit pad or something under my feet for insulation was just too much of a pain in the butt. I don't think you'll be sorry if you go with a full length quilt vs a 3/4.

Full length for me no matter what. A warm weather underquilt won't benefit from enough weight savings to bother with it, IMO. I don't want the tension from the shock cord on my legs. Also my feet always seem to be the one thing that gets cold. Regardless of insulation type and quantity I can sweat my arse off but feets are still cold. I refuse to invite that situation by not having my feet covered properly, and the foot pad just seems to be a giant hassle I'm not willing to put up with.

I have an Incubator and have made a could others using the same construction.
I am OK with a couple ounces knowing I will be warm and won't have to fiddle as much with a pad.

I have both. For backpacking, unless it is going to be really cold (below 25), I usually carry the 3/4 length with a pad just to save pack space. The pad under my feet keeps my comfortable, however, there is definitely more of a "fiddle factor" involved in trying to get/keep it adjusted during the night. The full length is generally set-and-forget, but obviously takes up more pack space.

I have used my HG 10 degree Phoenix down into the teens so far and it has worked great with a footpad. In the 20s I didn't use a footpad at all, and even though my feet were a tiny bit chilly, it was perfectly comfortable to sleep, for me at least.

I do believe I will go with the 20 deg phoenix with 1 oz over stuff. Most places I hike in the Southeast US don't get too cold and when it does, usually the roads aren't safe to drive on the hills, lol. I should be making my purchase soon, so I am thankful for Everyone's advice. -ATB Adam 🐢

I'll echo what others have said. Foot pads tend to slide around way too much for me so I prefer to have the extra coverage with a full length UQ. It also depends if you're a cold sleeper or there's a chance you could experience lower than expected temps. I'd rather have the extra length (and weight) than to find myself in a cold situation without it.
