Looking for tips to maintain diagonal lay...

Hey all, I'm wondering if anyone can help me through the experimentation phase of this hanging hiccup in hopes of saving a little time and energy. Like most people, I get the glory of the diagonal lay and how that translates to a flatter, more comfortable nights sleep. My problem is that while I start in that position, I don't tend to stay there. Not for tossing and turning or anything like that, it just seems as if gravity gradually, slowly, and naturally "drifts" me inline with my ridgeline while I'm asleep. Sometimes, no big deal. Sometimes it wakes me up and I find myself fighting to stay on an angle when physics seems to think I need to be laying in line. Hope that makes sense to read...

In case it matters, my hammock is a custom symmetrical 11 footer made of Robic 1.2 and I use continuous loops for my suspension

I'm wondering if a shorter ridgeline would help by giving more sag maybe? Or is this why they make asym hammocks? I had an asym that I only slept in for a night or two before it became my girlfriends hammock, prompting me to get my current hammock. I like not having to worry about which is the head/foot end, but I'm not opposed to going back to an asym if that's the solution. Any advice? TIA

Sounds like it is you, not the hammock. I doubt an asym hammock would be any different! The hammock will not "force" a diagonal lay - it is up to the user to select that lay.

The easiest fix is to get a bridge hammock This is one of many reasons I sleep so much better in my Warbonnet Ridgerunner bridge hammock.

Sounds to me like a setup issue. Can you get us some pics? DIY hammock? What length is your RL? What are you connecting those continuous loops to?

Just as important as hammock dimensions, what are YOUR dimensions?

I'd second the opinion on the bridge hammock. I wasn't convinced for a long time, but it really was a huge step up when I went that direction.

If that's not an option, have you tried laying on a pad? It might make a more stable base for you.

It's 58". The Robic XL at 68" wide seemed like overkill so I had it built a little narrower. Maybe that wasn't the right call

I didn't make the hammock myself, it was built by someone I met through facebook. It seems like he does good work, so I don't think there's any inherent design flaws. I'm using 1" dyneema webbing with as my suspension with Dutch Beetle Buckles to attach to the continuous loops. My ridgeline is between 115"-116".

Here's pics from my last two outings. The one with out the tarp was last night, which inspired this post. The one with the tarp was last weekend. I know my suspension was a little tight on that one, had a hard time finding trees in the right places.

Shorten that RL 6 or 7 inches and raise your straps up the trees. More sag in the hammock and a 30° angle on the suspension should help, suspension looks really flat in you first pic.

If you're way over 6' tall, 58" wide might not work for ya.

Thanks, I'll try that shorter ridgeline. Getting the straps higher isn't really an option. I'm a short guy, only 5'7". In the picture without the tarp, I literally climbed about 3 feet off the ground to get the straps as high as possible. I may consider a 10' hammock in the future. Seems like all other things being equal, a shorter hammock could be suspended lower on the tree
