Anyone using a 90 degree hammock use whoopie slings for suspension? Can you make the origional suspension straps into whoopie slings and use a Dutch whoopie hook onto the origional continuous loop? Or do you have to get new whoopie slings? Would this work?
No whoopies. I use a variety of straps that go around the tree and on the hammock end I use the pentagonal buckles of a WBRR; a marlin spike using just the loop holding the pentagonal buckles; or a Becket/sheet bend with some very light weight Kevlar straps. Since I have a variety of straps it kind of depends on the hang and mood. When I'm backpacking I mostly resort to carrying 12' nylon straps with a carabiner for the tree side and the WBRR buckles. The long straps give me some room to play with. I have even manged to use trees/power poles 25 feet apart on a couple of tricky and sparsely treed hangs.
