Just got my 4 Costco Down Throws in today

I figured I'd start on converting one to an underquilt for indoor hanging, and decided to rip the horizontal seams. OMG! That tedious job alone took me at least 3 hours. I've never ripped so many threads in my life! I think I'm going to do the faux baffle design I found in another thread, and then I'll probably add 1/2 to 3/4 oz of my 950+ down from Rose Feather to each chamber for added loft. I have several yards of membrane 10 stuff coming from RSBTR that I plan on using for a proper quilt build, but figured I'd get my feet wet with this cheap project first. I had considered just cannibalizing the down from one of the other throws, but there's no freaking way I have any interest in ripping all those seams just to get to it.

So, has anyone used their CDT for anything other than making a quilt? Like maybe a puffy jacket or beanie, or something else?

I used mine to make a pair of down sleeves. It was pretty easy and super warm. I'm now banned from using the CDQ on the sewing machine, though. My girlfriend didn't like the fact that I turned the house into a winter wonderland.... go figure.

I've got a pair inbound for Friday.
One is planned as a doubled UQ for my large camp chair. I should have enough of an edge cut-off to make a 70", 3-square wide [rolled, sewn and reversed as a tube] down scarf

Seam ripping tip. Cut at each end of the 5” square, pull out one long thread every 5”.

It doesn’t work every time, but it’s pretty good. Sometimes you can do 10” at a time.

Hmm..., that's a great idea. I'll give it a try if I decide to do any more seam ripping. Thanks for the tip!

I've seam ripped four so far, and got it down to ~1 hour to seam rip the last one that I did.
Not too bad, as I was able to multitask and watch Shug videos ;-)

Thanks to the Black Friday sale, I have new ones on the way.
Redoing my underquilts with faux baffles.
Torn at the moment between making a lighter weight summer underquilt - or playing with a topquilt instead.

If you've got 4 of em, you can do both. Twice.

I have a pair incoming myself and plan to use them to make the Gemini u/o quilt. I just need to get to the store and get some snaps.

Considering that I am a cold sleeper and the quilt designs I have in mind use 2 of the down throws - wouldn't be able to accomplish that.
