I've finally had the opportunity to go for a hike and take a couple of nice pictures of my first hammock (and it's my first DIY project). I've spent a couple of afternoons lying in it and last weekend I did a campout in our backyard with my boys (them in a tent and I slept in the hammock). It's so increadably comfortable, I can't ever see myself being a ground dweller again (fingers crossed).
This forum is great!! I picked up so many great ideas and incorporated many into this hammock.
It's roughly designed with Jellyfish's Nova in mind. ~10.5'
- Double layered, Outside is 1.6 HyperD, Inner 1.0 HyperD
- The Ends were sewn with a ~2" curve before gathering the ends, This was to reduce calf ridge and to reduce some of the really loose side fabric. Thanks, Snowball. I actually played around with how much to curve the ends by whipping the ends (Shug's Green bean video) before I committed to sewing the end permanently. I elected to go with a contunius loop vs a line through the sewn channel. I personally felt that it was stronger and I just felt metter about trusting the fabric and not my sewing.
- The Bugnet was made removable by using an idea from TacBlades that I found from MikekiM. Thanks. He also encouraged me to stop over thinking this and just do it.
- I also put an adjustable SRL in the hammock, since it's my first ever hammock I wanted the adjustability to figure some comfort things out. But, it's been at 83% since I first hung it up. ( I think I saw a video from Shug about this).
- I've ordered some carabiners from Dutch to get rid of those heavy climbing carabiners.
The Tarp is a Hex Cat cut tarp ~11.5'. Designed after the one that Jellyfish Posted video's on.
1.1 Silpoly XL
Overall, the project was pretty easy. I would encourage everyone to give it a shot. I'm already looking forward to my next projects a Top Quilt and an Under Quilt!! I'm also considering making a Griz Beak for one of the ends of the tarp.
Happy Hanging,
Tim
