VIDEO: First trip into Montana's Cabinet Mountains

I'm still trying to get caught up on videos, so this is one from back in the beginning of August.

I was supposed to have a group of people that were going with me, but every single one cancelled on me. I'm sure that we have all experienced this same thing. In the old days, I might've stayed home, but now I just go out by myself. Of course my dog Timber is always ready to go! It worked out well for me though, I doubled the milage and got to do the full loop.

It was the first time I have been into the Cabinet Mountains of Montana. The trail is just outside of Thompson Falls, and it turned out to be one of the highlights of my backpacking season.

    Thanks for watching!

What a beautiful area. Great video, really appreciate you bringing us along. You wouldn’t have a GPS track of this trip? I would also love to hear about your video setup.

    Thanks!

Not sure if you're familiar with CalTopo or not, but I have the map here: https://caltopo.com/m/AJ01

Nothing special about my camera setup: iPhones & GoPros. Thanks for checking it out.

Another superb trip and video. I'll have to remember that one as it isn't far away. A lot of smoke last summer. I still got a lot of exploring in the Bitterroots to do next summer. I will admit I got a bit of a scare when the banjo started up. Made me sort of clinch up. You never know about NW Montana and all. I thought you were off your nut about the whitetails as I was thinking it was more muley country. But I rewound it a couple of times, and yep, whitetail way up there.

I see you are still packing that shovel, must be prospecting during the evenings I use one of those coffee funnels (yours looks like a Melita) to make my morning coffee every day. Makes great drip coffee. I have this small tupperware bowl with a snap on top that the funnel just fits into and I keep the lighter, funnel, and P38 can opener in the bowl and I use it for cold cereal with milk as my main breakfast meal. But many times I usually go with instant coffee in the hills so that I can do a cold breakfast, hit the trail, and still keep the coffee addiction demon at bay. I didn't see a bugnet on the hammock? Did you use a head net instead or do hand to hand combat?

WOW! What a beautiful area to hike and so different than around this part of the country.

It's great too when you can find the perfect spot at the end of the day by a creek or by a lake or pond and even better when you have the whole place to yourself.

I quit counting on people to make the hike with me years ago & started going out on my own. Hiking alone or with the dog is fun too because you're on your own schedule... go when you want, stop when you want, stay a little longer if you want, whatever!

Great video & thanks for posting!
