Confusion cleared up about hammocks on the CT

Before starting my hike last friday, I meet an official and among other topics I ask why so many campsites say "Tents Only". We took it to mean no hammocks. But thankfully, that was not their intention. That was the only signs they had. Easy enough I guess!
So this has been a debate of sorts among some of us who frequent the CT.

This is good news as most reports lately from other areas seem to be banning hammocks. Have fun and thanks for checking.

Yes it's great news after much confusion. In a way, i didn't want to know for sure so that i could play ignorance. But when he told me that they simply pickup up the pre-made state signs that were also used at regular campgrounds and literally means no RV's or other equipment...i understood. Sometime we just think too much. Although it kind of saddens me to think i'm not breaking the law anymore...

Who says a tarp, especially a tarp with doors, isn’t just an old fashioned A frame tent? It is a tent!

I get though, that a lot of places have rules against people attaching anything to trees, which is a different issue, but not specifically intended to be anti hammock.

I've hiked Tennessee's entire Cumberland Trail and hammocked each time.

LOL yea me and my friends have always disregarded what we thought was a rule too. I feel more comfortable...actually a lot more comfortable knowing the truth. I dont like looking over my shoulder.
Have you completed all the trail segments that are new too? They have added like 40 miles in last few years. It seems to be ever-changing, thankfully.

Yep, I obey the rules, which are there for good reasons. And yes, to my knowledge I've hiked the entire CT that is "backpackable" and some parts by day-hiking (think Cumberland Gap) and some "side" trails (think Prentice-Cooper).
