May not be Amsteel brand, but is probably the same fiber -- Samson's chart says that 3/16" has "average strength" of 5400 lbs, so same ballpark. (And Amsteel Blue in larger diameters IS used for winches...).

Actually, I didn't miss it by much. According to The Hammock Calculator, the hang point would be just over 23 ft, so those are going to have to be some good sized trees. Plus, the ladder is going to be a bit of a pain, but think of the swing opportunity! I could probably charge for rides.

Thank you for taking that as humorous as I intended it to be. I was afraid it would go another way. I pack fairly heavy with 15' poly 1" webbing and large carabiners.

Below is what I bought. It has only 16 reviews, and they are mixed, but I figured it would do for my application. For actual winch use, I might look for one with more and better reviews and maybe pay a few dollars more.

Was about 40 degrees this morning, and I was again testing my OneTigris winter underquilt. Got a little cold, so, at about 6:00 AM, I was glad to have the assistance of the 5600 lb top ridge line to help me get up and out (relatively) quickly. The more I use it, the better I like it. Maybe I ought to wear a climbing harness to bed and rig up a pulley system ... hmmm ... I could always upgrade from the hiking trailer that I was planning to build to a pack mule. Of course, the wife probably wouldn't want it in the house. She's a good woman but can be a bit unreasonable at times.

No, I use tree straps and a second set of 'biners. I did notice that, in these photos, I did not yet have the descender rings so used 'biners there, too - not advised.
