    I would also prioritize the UQ, then on the way to the trailhead I'd stop at Costco or Bed Bath and Beyond and buy a down throw for $20 to supplement the top quilt.
    Good luck,

    What's The More Important Quilt: Top or Bottom?

    Warmer UQ. because it is easy to adjust the UQ to warmer temps by sagging or loosening therefore UQs are essentially adjustable. Secondly, it's easier to add a layer on top like another sleeping bag or down throw or TQ. It's hard to add to the bottom.

    Never been in the situation, but your back would suffer the more from the cold, so I would imagine that using an UQ which is rated for colder temperature is more important. I had a recent trip in Prague and I could sleep with minimal cover on top with my jacket on, but I really really require the pad underneath.

    UQ is a higher priority for me. If it's not adjusted right, or isn't warm enough, I suffer. I can always layer up, but if the wind blows my warm air out from below, I'm miserable.

    Another piece of information.
    A thin closed cell pad, or any pad for that matter, can be added between layers in a double layer hammock to add temp rating to an UQ.
    That is similar to adding layers on top of a TQ.

    Geeze, people are brutal here, making comments like you are stupid for asking this question! I'm new to hammocking but this I learned my first time hanging on my porch in SoCal during the spring. Middle of the night with no UQ it got down to maybe 65-70. I was in a sleeping bag. My backside was freezing. I immediately understood the importance of an UQ. Therefore I vote 20UQ and 50TQ....and maybe a blanket or two.

    RIGHT NOW I'm using a Greylock 3 partial UQ (25°-30°) with 1oz overfill in 14° with wind. Also using a 2QZQ UQP.

    TQs are Hudson River (+1oz 25°-30°) Sierra Stealth (40°), and JRB fleece quilt liner.

    The Greylock 3 UQ seems to go further with it’s 25°-30° rating than the TQ. I suppose it's due to (at least in part) to the UQP and possibly migrating the down. Can't rem if I did this before I rehung the Greylock. Also I hadn't thought about it (until now) but I do wrap the quilt liner underneath me so that would also help the rating of the UQ.

    I kept expecting the tushy to get cold but nay nay thrice nay tiz not.

    I will be replacing the 2 TQs with a 5°-10° High Sierra Sniveller this week.

    So in this case my TQ will be the lower rated quilt.

    UQP = Under Quilt Protector
