    Building Material.

so i'm thinking about building a bug net for my hammock and i need some help finding the cinch for the cinch cord. My design is just going to be a tube of no-see-um netting with a pull cinch cord at either end so i can pull it over and cinch it tight.

    Here are my supplies

extra ripstop from my tarp to use as channels for the cinch cord
    http://www.joann.com:80/joann/catalo...DID=xprd560961

54" x 10yds. of no-see-um netting (not yet purchased, i'm open to other sites with better deals)
    http://www.skeeta.com/html/netting/m...um_netting.htm

a cinch for the cord... i cannot find that... does anyone have idea?

thanks for your help, i'm going to post picture of it when i finally get around to building it and the bugs are out again.

I will sell you the noseeum for $3/yard + $5 shipping. You could just use a cord lock for the cinch cord I would think...what DID you plan to use for cord material? I will throw in a couple of cord locks for free if you like.

As long as you're going with JoAnn, maybe these cord locks would work:

BTW, I couldn't find 'em online, but I did see some of the more traditional ones on the rack in the local store.

I am wondering what pattern or material layout you are using for your tube?-54" by 30ft feet seems like a lot of material to cover a 3x9foot cylinder...if you turn the 54 inches to go lengthwise and put a seam in the middle, for a 108x108 inch square shape, you will only need 6 (and a bit )yards..
KM (who is very cheap- hates to buy more than is needed...)

i may take you up on that offer, how wide is it? for cord, i was just going to use nylon clothesline rope i got at walmart becuase it's nice and smooth so will pull through without catching on anything. what does a cord lock look like? is it like the image below Frawg because that's what i was thinking of.

Frawg yeah i didn't see them at all at Joanns... i found fasteners and clips but nothing like those, i also asked one of the ladies there, she said she doesn't know where could get them, so i don't think that store had them.

    Thanks for the suggestions!

Here is an easy to make, simple cord lock (in contrast to the usual multi-part plastic products).

i only need 6 yards of it... but the other set is only 5 yards, which won't be enough. so i'll have some extra for other projects... unless i buy it cut to fit (which is now an option thanks to stormcrow)... here's my design for it though...

should give me 3.6' of room inside if left a perfect circlet. it should still have enough space i think. any other ideas?

Looks good. I would use something smaller than a clothesline (which is cotton). I can send you some shock cord and/or draw cord if you like too. Cost will just cover my own.

Was hoping for a picture, but I think I understand what you described -- e.g., an oblong / rectangular piece of, say, semi-stiff plastic with a hole at each end of the long dimension? Nifty idea!

Yes, I think you have it. I've been unsuccessful in finding an image but it's very old tech (much older than me; I'm surprised if you never saw them before).

I like them mostly because they're simple and also because they can be easily made from discarded materials (rather than feeding the inefficient infrastructure which is required to produce the standard spring-loaded alternative).
