Is anyone planning on getting out this fall or into Dec/Jan?
Are we planning a frozen butt hang again like last year on bell mountain?

I might be interested if the date you choose is in January -- cannot do it in December because of commitments.
Please let me know when you choose a winter date. I'll be traveling up from the Ozarks, or down from Iowa, depending upon the date selected.
I might be interested if it doesn't get tooooo coooold, and I can get some of the new gear I'm planning on making done in time

I'd be interested. Following if you guys pick some dates.
Camped out every weekend of October with the scouts. Nice to be home for a weekend or two but starting to get the itch to get back out there. Hawn is one of my favorite parks to visit and only about an hour from home. I've never been to trail of tears s.p. It's also convenient for me. Don't plan this around those locations, I won't know about my availability till closer to January. Last years Bell Mountain trip was Inticing but the temperatures and distance from the parking lot had me concerned. I've had a little more cold weather experience with my gear and would be more confident.
Wetfoot310 I never see any southern Illinois hangs. Shawnee forest should have lots of places to hang. I've been advised against hanging at IDNR properties. Apparently you can get a ticket for hanging there.
I'm interested if I can swing dates. It seams these things always end up when I have the kids, or a Scouting activity. I'd bring the kids but if it's too cold, I only have enough good gear for myself. It will just be luck planning around my schedule.

I can't say I've encountered any problems in my time in Shawnee. Quite frankly, they don't have the people to enforce anymore. Sadly our state doesn't think it's a wise investment public lands, and reg inforcement was one of the first to go. I do normally choose wilderness outside of the state parks due to incredibly more relaxed regs and more consistency with most other land managers.
