Tips in the ground for me. My poles have a little thing that flips up to tighten down the wrist straps but I took the straps off and so that little tab is enough to fit into the d-rings. Never had them slip on my cuben tarp but they have in the wind with my Superfly.

I go tips down, mostly because I got used to wrapping the lines around sticks/dead branches... it was just the most logical way for me.

Has anyone tried this: with handles up, thread wrist strap through tarp D-ring, bottom-to-top, and then back over the top of the handle (think larks head). Then run tarp tie-out through wrist strap, attach with clove hitch, then down to stake... ? This works in my head to prevent damage to handles.
