I end up camping more in the winter than the rest of the year. Less people around, no bugs, and did I mention less people? Bring it!

lol well don't go to the Adirondacks because there can be lots of people there in the winter. I once camped at Bushnell Falls and was relishing the solitude and the -15deg temps and no wind on a clear, moonless night... and a solid 3 hours after sundown—the time when you dare think you're safe—this horde of about 20 noisy people came in and set up their basecamp/HQ.
However, most places you've got it pretty much to yourself.

I need to get back to the UP.
"Total daytime snow accumulation of 18 to 24 inches possible."
I am forced to be excited about it. Once I get out the first time it is astounding.

Not sure if this has been mentioned already but one of the easiest way to carry gear in the snow is a "pulk". Mine was made from a kid's plastic toboggan with 3/4 inch electrical conduit for the arms. I dipped the ends of the pipes in liquid tape so bare hands wouldn't freeze to them, drilled a hole in each for a carabiner and attached the arms to a loop of seatbelt webbing around my waist.
Not only was it easy to carry gear, I could take a full size ax and use the pulk to gather firewood once I arrived at the campsite.
