They had some isolated squal last week in northern Michigan and the UP. I'm in the southern part of the state and coming home today we had enough sleet that it turned my deck and yard white.

That pic was taken 2015 during a 3 day trip on New Years Weekend. Had a big storm the night before that we got to break trail through.

This may come as a surprise based on my location, but actually I am a total wimp when it comes to winter camping. I think everyone's metabolism is higher in daytime than night, but for me the effect seems to be more pronounced. In late morning on a sunny day, I have been perfectly happy nordic skiing at -20 F, but my late afternoon, my body isn't putting out the Joules like it was a few hours earlier; by midnight my metabolism has hit rock bottom. As a result, most of my winter outings are just daytime ski trips, but I have started very gingerly to push the envelope on late fall camping. I sleep sufficiently cold that my 20 degree UQ+TQ set really only gets me down to about 30 F. I have comfortably reached 20 F overnight, but with a 0 degree UQ (Incubator), and 20 degree TQ. A 0 degree TQ (Burrow) is on order, so I hope to push to lower temps this winter, but I don't think I will ever reach Shug-like levels of winter bliss/crazyness.

We have had our first dustings of snow the last few days. My skis are begging for an honest winter, not like last year.

After how warm this fall has been, I can't wait for some cold snowy days.

It was white here this morning as we finally had our first frost It hit 32 degrees. Forecast for the next 15 days shows the lowest temp as 43 so it was nice while it lasted. Maybe by January...

oooo oooo me me me! Saw some sleet in the air over the weekend, but still in the upper 30's so nothing sticking yet. I've got new gear to try and can't wait for it to get cold around here. We have a winter hang planned for weekend of Feb 9th https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...bruary-9-10-11

I think you're all crazy but for your sake I wish you a winter of plentiful snow.

I am hoping to get some time in the woods around Thanksgiving, I struggle with finding people crazy enough to want to go with me.
