Underquilt opinions needed 30 or 20 degrees for three season

    Underquilt opinions needed!
My family is backpacking mostly in the Midwest Ohio MI and east NY PA sometimes a bit south into KY VA.
Hammock gear econ underquilts have made underquilts for all four members of my hamock backpacking family affordable; but no so affordable as I can get two quilts for each family member. I believe I am going to purchase full length quilts but in the short length which I believe is 71 " to give a bit more coverage than a 3/4 option and to save a little weight . I am 6"4 300 lbs ,my wife is close to six foot and my kids will be there sooner than I like.
The question is should I get a 20 degree or 30 degree for three seasons with supplementing later with reflectex or climashield for some occasional winter camping mostly only for myself;maybe my wife or son.
Please help me with my indecision.
We camp year round when we can get out mostly three season. Sorry I know my post is a bit rambling.
    Thanks for your help.

    I would say get a 20º.
Seems most versitile and you can vent them a bit in warm weather my haging them a bit looser, or pulling to the side until needed or sliding the uq up toward head to create a bit of a gap.

Twenty degree is the most versatile. It gives you a buffer and given your location, thirty might not be sufficient in many cases. If it's only one, go for the twenty. Very little weight penalty and extra warmth buffer. Not much cost difference either

I'm in the 20F camp. I've had a 20F since first started. I recently bought a 40F for Summer due to the lower prices on the Econ quilts. I really like the 40F, but I could have used the 20F when I've used the 40F (if that makes sense).

Most cottage vendors rate their 3 season quilts at 20° so I would say go with that as they tend to be in the know.

I chose a 20° 3/4 UQ & added 1 oz. of overstuff for East TN.

Yep, 20. Actually, I use a 0 degree WB Wookie for most camping 50 degrees and under. Sounds like overkill, but works for me. I just adjust my top quilt/sleep clothes accordingly and vent if needed. I camped with Mark6r and Michigandave in northern Michigan last weekend using this set up. First night the low was 34 degrees, second night was 42 and the last night was 52 (think that's right). Low temps really varied just in those three days. Sure am glad I had the warmer under quilt for that first night!

Another vote here for 20 degrees. Try to prepare for your coldest temps and adjust for anything warmer. I don’t even consider an UQ ever too much, they can easily be vented when warmer. TQ’s are where I like to be more specific because I like to be covered up, so I have a 20, a 40, and a summer quilt for the top.

I'll just add another confirmation that you're much more likely to be too cold in the 30 than too warm in the 20. I've used a 20 degree underquilt as warm as the 60s with no problems. Just loosen up the suspension and pull the draft collars out and everything was hunky dory.

I would agree that the 20° version is the better choice for a 3 season quilt. This is especially true with the down quilts. I think that Down is amazing at regulating temperatures compared to synthetics. Synthetics seem to be more of an on off switch where down does fairly well of breathing and letting heat out when it is warmer out leaving the area near the body more constant.
