Quilt stuff sacks how tight do you go?

This has been bugging me for a bit.
As far as I can see from YouTube videos there seems to be no happy middle ground with this, some folks stuff their quilts into stuffsacks that are almost busting at the seams so that the down is pressed that flat.
Others seam to stuff it into sacks that you could almost curl up in as well as the quilt!
My point is how tight is right? From what I can deduce personally I don’t want to crush/damage my down but I don’t want to waste space in my pack either.
    Your opinions/points please?

I just stuff my quilts into my backpack and no longer use stuff sacks. It saves a bit of time and a lot of frustration for me as I hate cramming these slick things in a stuff sack.

I’ve done it myself but I find it means cleaning them more than I want to

I go back and forth from compressing my 40 TQ and UQ into one JRB compression bag or just compressing one and stuffing it in over the loose one. I'll wait till the night before or the morning of a trip to minimize time in the sack. It really just depends on what size pack your using and which quilts I'm bringing along (0, 20, 40 sets).

I'm not following? If you do not use stuff sacks you have to clean them more often? Why? I put my quilts, clothes, hammock, pillow in a trash compactor bag so nothing gets any dirtier than normal.

I stuff my top quilt (my UQ hasn't arrived yet, the suspense is killing me) into a dry bag and then roll that up as tight as I can. Have had no problems with the down fluffing back up at all. I have a 10 degree EE Revelation and it's loft is the exact same as its been since I bought it almost a year ago. And that was my first piece of gear with down in it. I also once left it compressed for a week straight in the dry bag and when I realized it and took it out, it fluffed back up in minutes and was at full loft in an hour or two. I believe the biggest issue with compressing down is if you compress it while it is damp. I always make sure my quilt is dry before stuffing. And luckily my quilt has DownTek down, too.

My dad has a down bag with no DWR on it he bought in the 90s and used that thing in Florida with the crazy humidity and it's been through many rain storms. The bag has been hanging in his closet for a while, unused for the past ten-plus years, and its loft is still the same as when he got it.

I feel as much as you need to take care of the down in your quilt, it is also more resilient than people think. I feel if you can take care of you gear at large, then the down should be fine.

I use a stuff sack that does not require me to break a sweat stuffing it in. Compact but supple.

I’m a loose stuffer. I don’t want to spend a lot of effort stuffing.
    I sew things on youtube.
I don’t sew on commission, so please don’t ask. Thanks.

I use compression sacks the day of and during the trip. then it's back to a big old storage sack when back at home.
