I'm finding it hard to believe no one commented on this! This is steller! I'll be building two from 3/4" EMT by spring. I just need them for the backyard and the occasional car camping with the youngest.

You don't see any gear in that photo because it was all rolled down the hill.

Oh - maybe that's a pack at the high end.
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.

Counterweighting the head end like that is an excellent aid to stability as long as a ridgeline is used, almost as effective as guying out the head end (which is not always feasible).

Its a long thread now and somewhere I read what the poundage pull was on the foot of the tensa 4 when set up and someone in the hammock. I think it was lower than I expected at about 53lbs/25kg
Just wondering if anyone has any figures. I realise it will depend on how much the individual weighs - but just as a guide would help.

I sorta remember the foot end needing about 70lbs. Latherdome?

The foot line pull is zero pounds at the tip-over point, when the stand is close to level, and up to about half the user weight when the stand has a major lean on it. So we recommend the line not budge when pulled with half the user’s weight. If the anchor won’t support that, tilt the stand less and anchor both ends as insurance against tipover.

Thanks JBear!…. The overhang located here is a pleasant cool oasis in summer…. l visited regularly sitting amongst the wildlife that would take a drink from the pools of water below…. After rain water showers from the top reaches….. wasn’t long before noticing Latherdome’s true blue Tensa stand l knocked up a bush craft Tensa while here is an abundance of exotic plant material introduced Privet that takes to growing along the main watercourse nearby….. from memory 4x lenghts cut were 9” l also hung an 11 foot hammock from SLD… a backpack with binoculars camera coffee and stuff held weighted and worked well as a counterweight at the head end…
