I thought that I could try the full 10' length for the tensahedron struts, and if they seemed too long, I could cut 6" off each piece to make 9' struts, etc. I was glad I didn't see the need to do that, though, as drilling the holes again would be a pain. (Yes, I could just shorten the piece without the crimped end, but that would make one half longer than the other. That also doesn't matter, though. The two struts I made out of parts from Turtledog stand don't join in the middle, but they work fine.)
How has that fence top rail model working out? Strong enough for regular use?

8’ is a bit too short for my 11’ wise hammock and 6’4” height but I could find a sweet spot and enjoy the hang. Quite a bit of tension on the one anchored end though 10’ length would help with all of the issues I suspect but I made this in short time from stuff I already had on hand.

It does. I’ve squirmed around a lot getting the winter sock situated and trying to find the sweet spot. No noticeable flex. I am a bit shoulder squeezed in this sock with the short 8’ uprights.

Hmmm. Will 1 3/8 fence posts fit inside 1 5/8” posts? If so coukd buy 2 of each, cut in half, and nest them for transport.

While this stand really doesn't suite my hanging style, I find it to be quite interesting, and one hell of an outside the box solution!!

That really is a versatile stand, and these are gorgeous photos! Must have been a serene spot to hang.

jd98p, The top rail stand seems plenty strong. I weigh 150, but had a 60 lb dog in the hammock with me once and saw no signs of bending.

Thanks. I’m trying to decide between making a top rail or 2x2 version. The top rail would cost more, but should also breakdown into smaller halves. Four 9’ 2x2s doesn’t sound terribly appealing for a townhouse dweller.

Deschutes River, or John Day River perhaps?
