The joint moves around on entry and exit, and especially while carrying and setting up. That's when I would expect abrasion. I used a chain saw file and fine sand paper to deburr the drilled holes, but they weren't perfectly smooth.
When I'm in the hammock the spreaders don't touch the poles. It's just that they tilt when getting in, and one end can catch, but it was easy to fix.

I was going to email you if you didn't spy this. I'm thinking of a bolt through the poles for the top apex with amsteel in a thimble around the bolt for the end tether and ridgeline (if any). Any bottom connector would benefit by being mounted on a small foot plate to keep the poles from sinking into soft soil or abrading the cross line.
