    Latherdome,
The joint moves around on entry and exit, and especially while carrying and setting up. That's when I would expect abrasion. I used a chain saw file and fine sand paper to deburr the drilled holes, but they weren't perfectly smooth.

When I'm in the hammock the spreaders don't touch the poles. It's just that they tilt when getting in, and one end can catch, but it was easy to fix.

    Roger,
I was going to email you if you didn't spy this. I'm thinking of a bolt through the poles for the top apex with amsteel in a thimble around the bolt for the end tether and ridgeline (if any). Any bottom connector would benefit by being mounted on a small foot plate to keep the poles from sinking into soft soil or abrading the cross line.

I can't wait to build one of these things. I took me two days to read through this thread but I'm very excited to try it out.

    Latherdome,
I know floppy joints and all poles straight will be stronger and pack smaller, partially why this is a trial version. Seemed to be okay with 180 pounds. This will be hauled on motorcycle and as is will fit in my side case. Made one using short pieces of heavy hose for bottom and top joints that works ok.

    Dunckelman,
This is 3/4 inch electrical conduit and bent with conduit bender. Pieces are 24 inches long. Total of 4 full pieces of conduit (40 feet)
