Finally finished my own version - I used "Mike's telescopic EMT conduit clothes line tensahedron" as a guide. The bottom part of the legs are 1" EMT conduit with the upper part being 3/4" EMT conduit. I 3D printed some sleeves to go over the 3/4" EMT to remove the slop when nested in the 1" conduit, so there is no wiggle there. I made some soft shackles (not sure what to call what I made) from 7/64 Amsteel I had laying around which ties the ends together. Did a test run in the backyard last night with my son and it worked out perfect!

Late to this thread, and a long time has passed since last posting on the forum. But been puzzling out the Tarp problem with the wobbly ridge as you get in and out. Would a couple of small struts fixing the gap size just above the fulcrum be detrimental to the balance. I realise it adds to pack weight but I'm thinking more for garden use here. Like this:

I don't recall having a problem with a tarp, though it has been a while since I used one. I use the short tarp extender poles. I anchor the tarp as needed, much the same as when attaching the tarp to trees. Certainly all of the side pull outs are anchored. I don't remember even having to anchor the ends as long as I anchored all of the corners and sides snugly. It held up to some storms. But if I needed to, I'd just run a corc to ground, bush or tree as needed.

If you're not using the extender poles and are suspending the fly by attaching directly to the stand, there is nothing to keep the ridgeline taut as you enter the hammock unless you run a line from the head end to "something."

OTOH, there isn't all that much sag. And it temporary.

Which is why I thought a couple of struts to add rigidity would be a quick win - as long as the angles are worked out for the particular hammock (also this is in mind of making my own woodend one for the back garden)

I don't see it being quick for a metal one for sure. For the back garden, why not just add a solid ridge piece? If it is to be permanent, why this design? Why not two posts in the ground instead?

Solid ridge piece is a long floppy piece of wood and unecessary - Don't want it permanent.

For metal - hollow tube, rubber grommits, dyneema loop.
