WI >7th Annual WI Frozen Butt Hang > Waupaca (on private property) > Jan 12-14, 2018

    Hey Everyone!

The 7th Annual WI Frozen Butt Hang will be the 2nd weekend of January as usual (Jan 12-14th). This year, the hang will be on a private 40 acre location in Waupaca WI where I teach survival and wilderness medicine courses. There are tons of good trees for hanging and lots of firewood. I'll have the parachute shelter set up over the fire area wich already has a ridge pole set up for hanging pots. The hike in is a short one this year only about 10 minutes making this very accessible for both pulk sleds or packs. In addition, just over the property line from the site is the ice age trail if anyone wishes to hike in from north of the proprty

    Trip Planning Spread Sheet HERE

We have had some of the coldest winter hangs the Midwest has to offer. Current record is -41F (2016 WI FBH)
Not sure if your gear is up to par? There will be a beginner overnight trip Jan 6th-7th at the same location. I host this beginner trip each year and will post an official thread soon with more details.

The driveway is .7 miles long and you can park at the end near the building. Google maps and your GPS may show 6th Ave going through Hartman Creek State Park east of the property but this is not open to vehicles. If you try to get to the property from the east you will be in for a surprise. Just take 54 to County Road D and the take D south to 6th Ave. You can park on the driveway near the building before the house. This will be an obvious place to park when you see it. We can have parking off the driveway as well based on group size. The trail will be marked down to the site.

I've put this on my calendar, but I'm a total *maybe* on this hang. I've gotten down to 15 degrees last February and I have a new UQ so I *maybe* could get down to 5° or 10°.

I'd like to continue my monthly hanging streak, but I do not want to be miserable. So, I'll decide once the date gets closer and I can see what the weather will be.

So I just ordered a hot tent, looking forward to putting it to use! Love that the weather is turning colder. I’ll see you all there!!!

I've added this hang to my "tentative" calendar. It would be a great weekend to absolutely commit to since I would have Monday as a holiday to recover from all the fun, but my BIL in Minnesota might be planning an ice fishing outing for us on that same weekend. Depends on the weather and how the fish are biting. I'll add to the Google sheet once I know how things are going to shake out.

I hope you can make it too. It's been a while since we shared a campfire.

    Average night temps.

What are your average night time temps that time of year.
Myself and BigRick are thinking about making the trip from Ohio.
