Hi folks, been awhile, but I think a buddy and I will make to the hang this year!
Thank you Nick for making the beginner weekend happen (and the delicious doughnut)! I think I will be a go as well and have put my name on the spread sheet already...
A conflict has come up and I won't be able to attend the hang.

I added my name to the spreadsheet. Looks like extra cold temps over the winter break will let me practice out in the backyard (aka do some ice fishing during the day and hanging at night). Looking forward to a good time.
The game is the best teacher.
Could a feller maybe stop by and marvel at everyone's setups, seeing as how I'm only 2 miles from there and want to learn how to winter hammock?
OK, I should be there as well. I will get the chance to test out my hot tent!
Greetings all, and (almost) Happy New Year!
I'm pleased to say that all the stars are aligning for me to attend this year.
I was hoping to make a last min show for the Da Shack Hang, but a family medical urgency prevailed.
I've slept out in the back yard for 8 of the last 10 days with most recent temps just below Zero.
It's been a few years since I have made a winter hang, so getting acquainted again with really cold weather gear.
I have a few questions:
1. With the sparse snow cover this year, how are we going to manage or acquire water (if there is not enough to melt snow)?
2. What is the food custom/tradition/protocol?
3. Would it be OK to arrive Thursday (if I can wing it), and stay until Monday (since it's a holiday, MLK)?
(I need tree-therapy time)
Namaste,
~bill

Not all who wander are lost.
Glad you're able to make it. The snow cover is maybe 4 inches currently and enough for pulling a sled but not enough to process water. For water, we will have tap water stored in 7 gallon jugs. these will be kept in a hot tent so they don't freeze. Food is usually a combination of personal meals and perhaps something to share with the group whether its a main entree or a desert. Take a look at the spread sheet and see what others are bringing. Also put down any group items that could be shared such as a dutch oven, extra saw, grill grate, etc. As far as early arrival goes, I would have to let the land owner know first. Here is a pic from 2 weeks ago.

Wow! That looks like a nuclear mushroom fire.
I may bring some baked beans in a Dutch oven.
I think I have a fire grate.
If early arrival (Thurs) is any hassle, I'll come Fri. (will probably need a day to finish packing)
How far in are we going in? And in which direction from the main building? (on Google earth, there looks like a campsite or clearing with a pop-up trailer just south)
(Home testing going well at -11F last nite (officially -13F).
Made a frost bib yesterday, first test looks good.
