    Video: Dutchware Chameleon Hammock Review

After spending some time with the Chameleon Hammock by Dutchware, I thought I would try my hand at a gear review video. (First ever so go easy on me!) I was backer number 95 so I've had it a little while now and I've had the opportunity to hang in it quite a few times. It's VERY comfortable, lightweight (Hexon 1.0) and full of features. I strongly recommend the peak shelf as an add on! It's a great product and absolutely worth the wait. For those of you out there still waiting for your Chameleon to arrive, be patient, it's totally worth the wait!

I was just laying in my Chameleon (#5!) watching you talk about you Chameleon! (Looks like we both got green with camo top covers.) Great video! As I recounted in my own written review here on HF, I pretty much agree with all your points. You were right to highlight both Dutch's high level of craftsmanship throughout and his cool new modular peak shelf. All around, a really well done video review of a really well made hammock. Thanks!

Good job on the video. Thanks for the detailed views of the hammock and suspension. I do wonder what would keep bugs from crawling under the small piece of bug net that covers the zippers?

Thanks for looking Kitsapcowboy! Yours is a mighty fine looking Chameleon as well! I like the multicam top cover you have on yours... I was able to get a DL Warbonnet XLC in that same multicam before they stopped using it. That hammock sure is heavy compared to my Chameleon but it is mighty comfortable. Also, your DIY game is STRONG. I've been checking out a lot of your work. Do you keep everything you make?

I suppose some of the crawly types could make their way in there but that is the trade off I think you have to make to have it be SO easy to take the covers on and off. I suppose you could incorporate a touch of velcro to really lock it down but its the flying bugs that I'm more worried about.

Excellent video and review. I didn't join the Kickstarter and I am now kicking myself for that. When are the chameleons available for standard purchase, anybody know?

    Great job.

Enjoyed the video. I was backer #44 and have had mine for over a month now. Neat to see the Hexon 1.0. I went with the 2.4 as I'm kind of a bigger guy. I agree the Hexon is amazing fabric. I also got the peak loft and would highly recommend it.

Have you seen Sintax77's video on using two Chameleons with the spreader bar? It answers some of the questions you posed. I think you should do a video on your impressions of using the Chameleon side-by-side.

You're welcome, and thanks for the compliments.

I am a sucker for any integrated-net hammock in Multicam. (Who am I kidding? I'm just a sucker for Multicam, period.) Like you, after some searching, I was able to acquire the now-discontinued Warbonnet Blackbird XLC (SL) in Multicam 1.9 oz with matching winter top cover, which I really like. This was particularly challenging, since I am a left lay guy and most of them were right-hand lay, so it was a real unicorn (for me) for a while...

In addition to the Blackbird XLC and the Dutch Chameleon with the custom top cover, I also have the SLD Trail Lair DL and several DIY hammocks in Multicam.

I give a lot of my DIY hammock gear to friends as gifts to help them get started in hammock camping, but so far I have kept all the rest of the stuff for myself and my family. At some point, something I make may eventually hit the chopping block (shopping block?) here on Hammock Forums...

Keep up the fine video work; I'm looking forward to your in-depth Beetle Buckle review. (I still haven't given mine a thorough backcountry test...)
