I had to go inside last night @ the same 23° temperature.

I tried to go without the fleece quilt liner and fleece hooded parka.

Also there was some light wind.

Adding the JRB quilt liner is an 18oz. add-on....upgrading to a ORM is only a 4oz. add-on

It may be time to get a ORM or a HSS.

    The UQ was fine.

I recently picked up a used HSS. Headed out tomorrow and it's going to do an odd job, it's going to be an UQ tomorrow night. Using JRB suspension at the head end, and larksheaded some loops on the foot end attached to line locks. Works great at home, we will know how it works outside soon enough!

    Interesting. HSS becomes an ORM.

What are you going to use as a TQ? and what temps are forecasted?

Forecast is low 20's with a 5-10mph wind. Been cold here the last couple of days, so the holler we will be in should be pretty frozen. I've loaned out quite a bit of gear which is why the HSS gets a chance at an UQ. I'll be using a JRB Shenendoah stacked with a Wilderness Logics 40 degree TQ. Loaned my other 2 out (both 20's).

This is the exact scenario that I am trying deal with using only the HR and layers.

Adding the wind is defeating me...i can add a quilt liner or a 40° TQ and be fine but I don't want to carry that much weight.

I don't usually mind the quilt liner too much. Pretty rare that it gets below 20 much anyway. I always though a little extra weight offset the need for a deep wi tee quilt. Guess I'll see this winter if the HSS changes my mind.
