HYOH Podcast - Episode 25 (Marc Bohmann/Teton Hammocks)

This month’s episode includes a great conversation between Mark, Jonathan, and Marc Bohmann from Teton Hammocks, an up-and-coming cottage manufacturer of hammocks and hammock supplies. We answer the question, is there still room in the market for a new entrant in the hammocks game, and if so what kind of business do they need to be? After a lively discussion about engineering for sideways rain, we finish up with a chat about winter foods for camping and backpacking.

Mark and Jonathan revisit an old story – site selection. With more news articles about folks being hurt by choosing rotten trees, it’s important to remember to pay attention to the trees that we connect to for camping.

Finally, we know you’ve all been waiting for a review of the Chameleon, and we have it for you. Jonathan and Mark talk about their experiences with the new Chameleon from Dutchware.

Thanks Mark & Jonathan for another fun listen!

Site selection is always a key item. I struggled with it a bit a couple of weeks ago on a campout because I couldn't get there until after dark and the headlamp can only tell you so much. I felt pretty good but during the first night we had some mist and wind (leftovers from Jose) and the wind especially made me very conscious and nervous of if I had done a good enough job. At this same campground last fall I saw the upper 10 feet of a 12 inch scotch pine snap off in a mild breeze and land 20 feet in front of a car that was leaving (that guy was glad he had been delayed!). This tree looked totally fine/healthy overall. I saw Sintax heard a large tree fall 'relatively close by' (but couldn't find it in the morning) on his recent Big South Fork video. I think some things are easy to spot, others take some experience and others are totally random.

One other note...I usually listen through Google Play but this episode had a lot of skips in it. I saw someone posted a comment on the website and it sounded like they had the same problem with iTunes. I ended up listening to it through the HYOH website and it was fine. Not sure if there's an issue with the 3rd party sites hosting but wanted to mention it.

Thanks guys and keep up the good work!

ps - looking forward to next month's episode with the scouts. I'm the only hanger with my son's troop but the scouts have been bringing hammocks a lot more of late just to hang out and congregate in (mosly ENO's and cheapos). I saw a carabiner failure (stretched and twisted) on this past trip but luckily no one got hurt.

Thanks for listening! Site selection seems to be a common challenge, and one we have to keep learning how to do better. So far I've managed to avoid poison ivy too!

Also, we did have an issue with the podcast, I ended up re-rendering without as aggressive of a "Truncate Silence" function enabled, which had cut out chunks of conversation. I appreciate the feedback.

Oh good, I was afraid I had messed up the download. It wasn't me.
Thanks for the podcast; I like to listen to them while sewing after the kids are in bed. Lots of interesting nuggets of information each time.

The content from HYOHpodcast is just great. I do like how yall have the main guest to talk to whether by phone or in person. The convo's have gotten better with each month. Then yall go and add so many other little fun listening. It's just a great listen. Even my wife was getting into it while I was listening the other day while painting outside.

I've almost caught up on all the podcasts. Just have 3 more to go. I think I'm already starting to get podcast withdrawal knowing that when I'm done with the last 3, I have to wait for the next installment.

If I was to give any kind of advice, it would be to go video. Actually, I like the current format because I'm not tied down to a screen. The video option is only to "add advice". The logistics would be a nightmare. See ya at HangCon 2018.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you
