    O'ahu Hammock Camping... Allowed?

    Howdy there...

New to this neck of the woods, and first post on HF. Cheers.

Question for you folks. I've got a trip planned for O'ahu in the beginning of October. I called the botanical garden up to see about their camping rules, reservations, costs etc. The lady on the phone made me aware that they do not allow anything to be hung or strapped to their trees, even if it's webbing material made to not damage bark.

So my question is this, who here has hammock camped in O'ahu, where did you go, did you have run-ins with enforcement of this "no using our tree" rule?

Thanks for your time, it's much appreciated.

I can't answer your questions, but I did want to welcome you to Hammock Forums. I've got a daughter in Texas, though not near Houston. Hopefully, someone else will chime in with info for you. Glad to have you on board.

    Cheers.

Thanks for the welcoming! Finding plenty of good info on this site already.
Hoping to hear about O'ahu, and if no one knows, maybe I can get suggestions for last minute backpacking destinations that I can make arrangements for within 2 weeks.

If they told you it's not allowed then please respect the rules. Folks that don't follow the rules are the cause of more rules and restrictions. Hammocks are banned in far to many areas already and management agencies work together and influence policy from one spot to another....one area banning hammocks is likely to cause another to and so on, especially if they are having more and more trouble with folks not following the rules.

Yeah, absolutely, Gibson. On the other hand I've read on some forums about people hammocking in qualified locations. Certain beaches offer the ability etc. I'm just trying to get some info from anyone that has happened to make their way out there.
    I appreciate your concern.

    Cheers.

I would imagine botanical gardens would be strict. Have you check into state parks and forest reserve? I think the latter would allow more flexibility.
