I'm curious what detergents are considered safe for hammocks? Sounds like washing machine use is safe, I assume the delicates cycle?
I use whatever detergent I've got in the house. I happen to be a fan of the fragrance-free versions of regular grocery-store brands, so it's usually one of those.

I seem to remember some cottage vendors recommending the use of a washer that doesn't have an agitator. Mine has an agitator, so I throw my hammock into a large mesh "lingerie" wash bag and use the gentle cycle. I've been washing my current hammock every two weeks or so for over two years, and it doesn't show any signs of wear or damage. (Minus a few cat-claw snags.)
