    Thumbs up New from Florida

Good morning - I've lurked around these forums for a few weeks looking for info. I'm interested in giving hammock camping a try... in fact, mostly I just want to get out and do more camping. I have a two-night canoe trip planned later in the year, and I'm thinking this will be the best opportunity to try it out. I've got a Hennessy Ultralight Explorer Deluxe on the way. I'm actually headed back home to Maine next weekend and will bring my gear just to familiarize myself with it and maybe even test it for a night or two.

Thanks for putting some great information out there and sharing your experiences.

Check out Summers last gasp hang in the trip posts. It is at the end of September, a short trek into the woods. It is a great time to try out new gear with people that can help you set it up. You can make it a day trip if you can't get off for the weekend. We would love to see you there.

Oops, I just read your post again. Headed to main huh? I guess we won't see you at the Summers last gasp.
The essential part of me can not be discussed here. Ask me in person.

Welcome! There are a couple of us that spend time split between Florida & New England.
If you want to get outside more , you might as well do it the comfortable way in a hammock.

Thanks--we evacuated to Atlanta Saturday, spent two nights there, then returned through the remnants of the storm Monday. At the end of the day, we didn't lose power here in Tampa. Lots of places across the bay and on the other side of the state fared much worse.

I'd like to be one of those, eventually... I spent the first 20+ years of my life in Maine, and the last 15 or so in Florida.

Welcome, from that other side of the state.

Keep an eye on the boards for the Maine group hangs while you're up there and also down here thru out the rest of the year. There should be quite a few down here with the big one in January MLK weekend for HangCon 2018. A bunch of Birthday hangs from Nov-Jan to help you get familiar with your gear as well.

Hope to see you on the trail.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you
