    2nd top quilt

Trying to decide n a second to for summer months in Georgia and also for stacking with the 20 degree burrow that I have on the occasional nights that get really cold. My backpacking gear also doubles as my sleep system from my car for astronomy and some of the coldest nights are also the clearest. I'm debating between a 40 degree to and a 50 degree. I should also mention that I have a zero degree underquilt for winter and a 40 degree underquilt for summer. Leaning towards the 40 because I don't think a 50 degree quilt will provide much warmth.

First thing that came to mind is a CDT top quilt. Mine is easily good into the high 40's..

I haven't tried stacking it with a 20, but can't see why it wouldn't work.
Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....

Sierra Stealth from Jacksrbetter. Good to 40º/45º....you can wear it too!....http://www.jacksrbetter.com/shop/sierra-stealth/ Sewn thru baffles on this one. The next level Sierra Sniveller is good to 25º/30º and has full baffles.
I have their High Sierra Sniveller. Super warm and can wear it too. Look forward to warm sleep.

My thoughts as well. I have a 20* LLG ghost pepper and a CDT top quilt and stacking them I've been down to 15 or so and had to vent because I was too warm.

If you are looking for a summer quilt then a 50 should be just fine and will provide comfort down to around 50. From your post it sounds like you are looking for something other than a summer quilt though.

Even in the south, I feel like the 50 wouldn't get used much. It's usually colder n the mountains. I'm going to look into the Jacks are better. They look interesting. I really appreciate the time taken to respond. And I have learned so much from your videos Shug.

Have you considered a synthetic top quilt? The difference in size and weight is not that much for a 40*F rated quilt. And a synthetic quilt has an advantage over a down quilt when stacking on top of another down quilt for vinter usage.

Check out Enlightened Equipment, Arrowhead Equipment and Nunatak USA, they all offer synthetic top quilts.

    Personally I would chose a 40F rating over 50F.

I love my synthetic TQ made from 2.5 oz CS Apex. I made it a tad smaller since it's for warm weather and it only weighs 10.8 oz and handles our humid weather like a champ. I can take it a tad below 50 with wool bottoms and my UL down hoody. Since I usually carry those all the time I know I can rely on them to keep me warm if the temps dips. FWIW it gets used 4-5 months a year (so a lot) and I live in Indiana so it's not exactly a tropical location.
