Need Hennessy underquilt, what do you use?

Hi folks, I have a Hennessy Explorer Deluxe, with the supper shelter. I've had it for a number of years & love it. My experiences have been good, down into the 40's, My first night out with temps in the 20's was cold and miserable, at the frozen butt hang back in January. So I'm shopping for an underquilt. I'm a cold sleeper, so need good density. Thinking about getting down. I know about the Kick *** underquilt, Potomac, designed for Hennessy and leaning that way, but they aren't down. What are your advices specific to Hennessy's & underquilts, cause I just don't know what to get? Kate

If your Hennessy has a bottom entry, have a look at the Nest underquilts from JRB (Nest, Winter Nest). If your Hennessy has a zippered entry, any underquilt on the market will fit. Other than the bottom entry, Hennessy hammocks are simple gathered end hammocks - just like the rest.

You can send it to 2QZQ and the Zipper Queen will put you a zipper mod on that Hennessey if you want one or just go the JRB route.I have their Winter Nest.Warning, once you experience the "downy goodness" you will never be quite the same again........

I have side zip Hennessy and have UGQ Zeppelin UQ. It fits well and I like it.
With side zip, most fit the HH well. I do not use pull outs when using UQ.
I have my HH at 2QZQ now for the HH zip mod 4 to put zipper on other side as well.

as hutzelbein said. Bottom entry = Jacks are Better The Nest. Zip entry you can use any UQ for a gathered end but I still prefer The Nest because it fits great and the tie out points match up exactly. I also like that JRB does next day shipping so I am not waiting around for a piece of gear.

Thanks for the reply dkurfiss! I see you have standard HH suspension, what are the rings you mention? How do they work. Ive used the standard suspension with lashing for many years. NEVER had a problem with them failing coming undone even with my thrashing around trying to get into my sleeping bag on cold nights, LOL!. But my buddies keep saying I need lighter, easier gear. I just don't want to hit the ground, EVER.

Rings will not make it lighter I use descender rings that I picked up at REI. Makes it easier to adjust but some folks talk about the rings destroying the ropes. That, so far, has not been my experience...yours may be different. THIS is pretty much how I do mine. I camp out about 20 nights per year in my HH using this method and have yet to experience any issues. But, remember to tie a slippery 1/2 hitch in your rope or you will end up on the ground...promise

I first used a Teewa. The JRB was a huge improvement that just fit like it was made for my original bottom entry. Imagine that. But you can use anything. My next improvement was the zipper queen (ZQ) did me a mod. I kept the bottom entry in the event of a bad back, bum leg, ect.
I like refried beans. That's why I wanna try fried beans, because maybe they're just as good and we're just wasting time. You don't have to fry them again after all.

You really don't need a hammock specific UQ regardless of entry method.
