Found this thread after hanging from red cedars. There were not big globs of sap on the tarp, just lots of little spots. There was some random tree dirt as well, so I washed it with water and Dr. Bronner's Sal Suds (very diluted), which is pretty strong but gentle. I used an old dish scrubbie to very gently remove the sap spots.
Then when I was rinsing and drying the tarp, I found some spots I missed. I was wiping it with a microfiber towel (one of these). I wiped at the sap, and lo and behold, it came right off. No scrubbing needed.
I don't know if it was some special action of the microfiber towel or if the sap was hardened by a few days' time and water, but it was way easier than I would have guessed to remove.
The straps, on the other hand... gotta try some rubbing alcohol for those I guess. I scrubbed with the Sal Suds and got the tree dirt off them but the sap is impregnated in the weave. These are Kevlar 3.3 straps from Dutch.
Anything sticky you need to get rid of without any effort....GOO GONE! Amazing stuff.
