DIY backyard posts for Double Dutching

    Hello everyone,

I have a small backyard with 3 trees that are not ideal for hammocks (30 some feet apart).
So I decided I would put a couple posts cemented in the ground.

I have 2 Dutchware Chameleons with 15 foot beetle suspensions and 32 inch spreader bar.
I want to have double Dutch mode and single mode options.

    My questions are;

    Round or square posts?
    Diameter of posts?
    Height of posts?
How deep to put post in ground?
    Distance between posts?

Obviously in the backwoods I won't have this controlled environment but I want the perfect set up for testing purposes.

    Thanks in advance,

    -Cory

Here is my learning curve for just such a project: https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...ghlight=tandem

We've been hanging tandem using my spreader bar 2.0 nearly every weekend since I installed it. Originally, my wife said I could put the pole in only if I later replaced it with an actual tree. Yesterday, she said during our walk that she thinks the pole looks good, and doesn't want a tree since we would have to wait to hang on it.

    No need for cement.

To answer your questions more directly:
Round to minimize wear on your suspensions,
    8"+ diameter, 12' posts - 8' above grade, 4' below,
15' minimum distance between anchors, or right in the middle of your 30' span.

Keep in mind, your tarp will have to be strung higher to account for the wider span of the two hammocks, and the lift that happens on the other hammock's spreader bar when you load only one of the hammocks. Our span is 18' and I like that distance because we just use a 12' x 16' poly tarp for backyard hammocking. The 16' length is the ridgeline.

Perfect that's all the information I needed

I'm just using a 12 x 12 tarp works well plenty of coverage.

    Thanks Dannyll!

You're welcome! Share the tribal knowledge...

Up there in lake country, if you are near a marine supply place, they sell exactly what you need - a round 8" diameter x 12' pole.
