I've wanted a hex tarp for a while but haven't been able to justify it since I have a 10X12 rectangular tarp that I've really liked. I've made a few gift hammocks and other small projects from RSBTR's heavily discounted 2nds remnants and was taken aback at how minor the cosmetic defects were; it was difficult to even find the flaws again in the finished articles. In short I've been casually watching/waiting for the right combination of materials, colors, and dimensions to show up. I snatched up a 5yd piece of Silpoly XL in dark olive which I was excited about and a 3yd piece of regular silpoly in black.
I have limited "free" time to work on projects so I had to work on my tarp in short sessions often less than an hour. Saturday I was able to squeeze in 2hrs in the morning and finish sewing on the reinforcement patches and tieout hardware. In the afternoon I convinced the wife and kids that we needed to go to a park with lots of shade trees
Here it is:
11ft ridgeline (no center seam)
just under 10ft wide at the narrowest point mid cat-cut (4in deep on ends and 5in deep on sides)

3/4in Beastee-Dee ring on ridgeline. Grosgrain sewn into hem. Rounded reinforcement patch from 2 layers of the same silpoly.

[Stay tuned... I plan on making a beak/door with the left over wide silpoly that will clip to the ridgeline and corner D-rings .]
