Tarp ridgeline lower than hammock suspension?

I am hoping someone with more experience may have suggestions regarding how i could be doing tbis better... let me try to expain, first off i am sleeping in an ENO DN with a whoopie srl on Atlas type straps, (saving for whoopie or cince bkls), under a Kely Noahs 12... I am hanging my tarp under ridgeline and have my srl set at about 94", to have my tarp close to the ground (1-2'), my suspension at around 30°, and my srl almost taught, i am having to hang my suspension higher than my tarp ridgeline on the trees to keep my butt off the ground. Tarp at about 7' up. Currently trees are 15' apart which doesnt seem to be that extreme considering my tarp is close to 11' (catcut) in length at the line. I am fairly new to hanging and have learned alot from this forumn so i am hoping for a little guidance, is this common or could i be doing something differant.

Just depends how covered you need. With my amok I set the tarp above the hammock straps when I want to do a porch mode or I'm not concerned about driving wind or rain. When weather is an issue the tarp is connected well below the hammock straps knowing the hammock will sink as I get I to it

By hangingbsuspension higher I am guessing you mean where the straps wrap the trees is higher then where the tarp ridge line wraps?

If yes to that, then yes, your suspension should typically be higher. Mine always is. It's how the geometry works out. Check out some of the rigging illustrations on the ultimate hang for clarification.

With trees space 15' your straps will be pretty high to get the 30 degree angle, especially on a smaller hammock like and eno.

If you mean something different please clarify, so that we can help more.

    You're doing it right.

Check out this quick video from Derek Hansen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-IkTg4z6UY&t=63s. You'll note the hammock suspension above the tarp suspension.

    Perfectly normal. Carry on.

Tarp ridgeline lower than hammock suspension?

That is correct and thank you, on the tree, my suspension is wrapped higher than my tarp ridgeline, bumping into it with a little swing getting in, i have heard that my srl should not be too taught to slightly twist with my fingers and thats what im going for, have gotten a very comfortable diag lay right at about the 83% length. i dont mind the tarp set high and open in the summer but lows here in MI are getting down closer to 50 and can be windy by the lake so im going for a little more closure of the tarp. With my tarp under the line on prussiks its not affecting it much but i was thinking about moving the straps closer to the side of the tree to get off center of the tarp ridgeline. Thanks for the response it is greatly appreciated.

If the strap bumping the tarp is a concern, you can rig the strap to port and the tarp to starboard on the tree. It will give you a few inches of clearance for the sway.

Doesn't sound like you're doing anything wrong. My tarp ridgeline is set below my hammock suspension virtually every time I hang. One tip I've picked up is to rig your tarp's CRL to come off the opposite side of the tree as your hammock suspension to minimize contact between them.

EDIT: Ah! Gargoyle beat me to that tip.

Tarp ridgeline lower than hammock suspension?

thanks for the tips, i dont feel the need to get out and adjust it now but may in the morning, the tarp ridgeline is taught enough it doesnt seem affected and im not actually resting against it once settled, this is my first time with a srl and had to hang my straps higher than normal to account, no regrets as the srl is worth it.

Check out the diagram with the woman on Derek's site with the "V" for your hammock suspension to pass through. https://theultimatehang.com/2012/11/...s-with-a-tarp/
