    Mississippi River Canoe Trip

For anyone interested, my wife and I will be starting a thru-canoe of the Mississippi River tomorrow. We are taking our hammocks, of course, and look forward to many comfortable nights hanging along the banks of Big Muddy.

The trip starts at Lake Itaska in Minnesota, and will hopefully make it to the gulf sometime in November-ish.

Per usual, we will be journaling on our website - longdistancehiker.com

Cool! How many miles a day will you have to average? As winding as the Mississippi river is that could be 3000 miles in distance.

Not sure. At all. Will find our current speed and what we are able to do on the fly. Not like a hiking trip for us at all.

We expect (hope) to do 20-40 up through Minneapolis and then increasing ore significantly after st Louis...but it's a big unknown. Luckily we can carry lots if extra food without too much burden

good luck on your trip! sounds pretty amazing!
FYI: If you want to know what type a certain bear is, sneak up behind it and kick it. Then,
run like crazy and climb up a tree. If the bear climbs the tree and eats you, it's a black
bear. If the bear just pushes the tree over and eats you, it's a grizzly bear : )

Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me, either, just leave me alone.

Sounds like an amazing trip. Wish I could tag along!

Have you read Don Starkell's Paddle to the Amazon?

Anyways, good luck, paddle safe and keep away from those big boats!

When you get down south of Baton Rouge, stop in Donaldsonville. It's a neat little town. I grew up there and whenever adventurers came through, everybody made a big deal of it. If you go to Bellina's corner store, tell them Carol Doescher's daughter sent you there.

Have a safe and fabulous trip!
