    "Hammock Friendly" parks in Carolinas?

I'm planning a trip for me and my son this spring and I'd like to go to a new park we haven't been to before. With the new reservation systems online, it's hard to get a feel for sites that have decent wooded area for hammock hangin'. Of the places we've been before, I know where to go. I'm looking for suggestions for carolina parks that others have been to that have good "hammock potential".

    Thanks

Pisgah National Forest is right up the road from where I live. Great place.

Edisto Beach State Park welcomes hammocks. If you are lucky you will be able to get a spot in the beach campground. Nothing like sleeping in a hammock with the sound of ocean surf in the background.

I haven't been to any of the state parks here. There's a few folks who have camped at Sesquicentennial near Columbia and Poinsette near Sumter...but those might be a bit of a drive for you.

Myself, Ricegravy, Dameon and others have camped in Congaree NP several times now. Never had a complaint about our hammocks. We did get a visit from Officer Farva telling us when quiet hours were, though.

Second vote for Congaree. I did the loop hike with my son and camped just off the river. We ate dinner on a sand bar, and in the morning that sand bar was COVERED in animal tracks...heron, coon, boar, etc. Yeah...the boars...they've tilled up the area and I could hear one rooting around at night. Never actually saw one though, and didn't have any issues other than getting up at 2am to see how close he was to camp. Definitely a neat trip.

Which reminds me...I need to post that one on my trip reports page.

Both I & NCPatrick have used hammocks w/ no problem at Pilot Mt State Park, NC.
    http://www.ncparks.gov/Visit/parks/pimo/main.php

There are a couple more not far away from me that I'd like to know for sure about, Stone Mt State Park & Hanging Rock State Park.
But like it's been discussed before, hammocks are often times a grey area in the description at state parks & therefore, open to interpretation of the staff that happen to be working at the time

Thanks for all the responses. Wouldn't be the peak of irony if hammocks weren't allowed at Hanging Rock?

Santee State Park gave me a hard time about mine. Where they want you to camp is a dirt area without trees.
