The Janome is the cadillac of sewing machines these days (this is my understanding). Ours works easily - has numbers to show you how to work the upper thread. A wife teaches you how to insert the bobbin.
Just a quick update - so I ended up getting a Juki DLN-5410N-6, picked a great looking one out of a batch of 9 or 10 available for a price much lower than I was expecting! Making the 9 hour trip from Rochester to Pittsburgh and back in one day was a bit of a stretch, but even after 24 hours of having it setup...things are different but I'm nearly as proficient as I was, with a 3x bump in speed (at least).
Funny story, I was showing it off to a few friends right as I had reassembled it in my (dorm/apartment) room - went straight out at full power, without adjusting any of the motor settings. I ended up blowing the circuit breaker, as I've only got one 15A circuit in my room also powering my desktop computer and small fridge, so the 9A or so that it's rated for was just a bit too much. It's now sitting comfortably at the 3rd notch out of 16 on the maximum speed setting, and it's still too much for me to handle!
I'll get a few pictures up in the next day or two - busy, busy, busy week at school - cannot wait for the weekend to get to play with this machine more!
cool, that's almost exactly what i have (DLN-5410-N). i don't have the speed control on my motor, i was worried about not having it, but i got used to controlling the speed with the foot pedal pretty quick. you'll be used to using it in just a few days, it doesn't take long
good to hear you got a new machine, I just got my deluxe from you a week ago and 2 days later I was in snow and freezing rain and I am absolutely pleased with the size of the tarp and the craftsmanship. best of luck getting used to your new machine!
Great find!

Great looking machine,,, looks like it will do any job needed.
Those Jukis are fine machines. I worked for years as a sailmaker and Jukis were one of the loft favorites.
I have used all kinds of machines and miss having an industrial around. Even had one that could stitch two pieces of half inch plywood together with Kevlar thread. Just for fun. Those were the days!
Alas, nothing ever fed into my injector has come out the other end with the quality of yours Brian. Still, mine passed away this past Sunday. It would cost me more to have repaired than I spent on it and it wasn't the greatest of injectors in the first place; Brandon even made fun of it once. You believe that?!
So, I'm a shoppin again. I found a Dressmaker with table on Craigslist for $30, but by the time I called it was gone. Going to a couple of repair shops at lunch to see what I can find. I can't believe I'm sad about a thread injector. My, my how things have changed over the course of my life.
Trust nobody!
Cannibal, do you have a single brother? I need a sensitive man in my life.
