Treated down / downtek? And other differences between more expensive quilts

    Hi guys!

I'm looking at Wilderness logics for a possible quilt, and am mostly trying to see what I'd be giving up for the $40-$50 difference or so.

A few things I wanted to clarify:

    1. Others like Bandit seem to use Downtek / treated down. I assume WL quilts don't have that?
    2. Tapering - are all WL quilt just plain rectangular?
    3. Material - Weights in general seem a bit heavier on WL quilts. Is this because they use a heavier fabric? It doesn't seem like most exceed 1oz/yd anyway, so i'm not sure where the extra weight is coming from.

Call up Marty. Great opportunity to find out all the questions right from the source. The best way I feel with wilderness Logics is telephone. All vendors seem to have different best ways. Wilderness Logics is by phone. They can do customization. I love the quilts I got. I could've gotten them cheaper maybe somewhere else but I want those. Glad to have them too. Anyway let us know what you went with. Ought to give Marty a holler just to see what they can do for you. He will hook you up. Good luck.

I can, but it's nice to get answers on a public forum so people don't have to ask them continuously.

So... Without specific questions, or if your talking underquilt or topquilt.. .. I'll answer based on what I 'know'

The 'savings' you refer to is due to the lower price of their blended down. There are at least 3 vendors right now that are offering a lower priced option on their quilts, Wilderness Logics being one of them. They all offer premium quilts as well if you feel better spending more.

The Bandit does not come with treated down. UGQ quit using that about a year ago. Not sure if WL uses treated or not.

WL underquilts are shaped, or tapered. I don't know about their top quilts.

There are many different reasons for weight variances. Differences in fabric, down fill power, quilt options(fleece patch, draft collars, etc), and quilt design(grosgain edges, size of shock cord, baffle material, etc)
I don't know specifically why WL quilts would be heavier.

WL does not use treated down. Customization is what I value--Marty can make gear to your needs.
