About that comment on carrying a 6 ft Amsteel dogbone - as a good representative of hammock camping, you may want to put that inside 1 inch webbing. I just bought a 6 ft length of climber’s webbing (tubular) at REI and asked them to seal, but not close the ends when they cut it. Then I ran the dogbone inside so the loops stick out each end. It is definitely not UL, but I’m pretty sure it would pass muster to a park official. And yes, it still has a higher lb/square ft pressure than a real strap. But you may need the phone number of Doug Fir or Ponderosa so you can call them up and tell them there’s a strap around them - otherwise they wouldn’t know.
