    Cuben leaks!

I'm currently hiking the Appalachian Trail with my hammock setup. My Hammockgear tarp is probably 3 years old and has approximately 130 nights on it at this point. It's developed numerous leaks along the ridge.

These aren't holes you can see. They are tiny. I believe the film that laminates the dyneema is failing and allowing water through. The last time I was in town I put portions of the tarp in the motel sink and was able to get tiny droplets to form by pressing the tarp into the water. I patched those spots, but obviously there are more.

Just a heads up that these things don't last forever.

And a bit of a grumble as I lay here at 5am wiping up drips off my quilt.

Are you gonna buy another cuben tarp or patch the one you got?

I'm getting another one. It going to start getting colder soon, and I don't want a cold rain dripping on me.

At this point I feel the entire ridgeline is compromised. I keep it in skins so it pretty much gets rolled and folded the same every time, which probably contributed. The new one is going to just get stuffed.

I haven't decided what I'll do with this one: continue patching it or cut it down to make a small ground tarp.

Get some cuben tape and repair it yourself.

If I'd just bought it, absolutely. But it's 3 years old and has 130+ nights on it. I've got my money out of it.

You really should be addressing HammockGear. Harry, Adam and them will want you to be satisfied.
Call them and I am sure they will bend over backwards to get you high and dry.

I completely agree and they really want to take care of the thru-hikers. But if he feels like he got his money's worth then get a new one and stay steady on the trail.

Folks. This is not at all a complaint against hammockgear, cuben, or the fact it rained last night. Just a reminder that I posted while mopping up drips that nothing lasts forever, especially something as light as cuben.
