Watched the video... haha, they make it sound so simple. All I could think was that there was gonna be a lot of cold butts trying out this "new fad" :P That said, I'm a hammock junky... I'm tempted to go test the site out too.
As you pointed out the video called this a "new fad". I wouldn't call it a new thing since I entered this realm of camping almost 8 years ago and I am not going back to the ground anytime soon. I am working on converting the new son-in-law to hammock camping this weekend when we head out.

Yep. It's just such an obvious idea to camp in a hammock, I tried it when I was 12. Glad I came back around to it as an adult with the resources for some good insulation and weather protection
Good luck with your efforts re: the son-in-law. I try to get anyone who camps with me to try it!
Some of you close to this state park should try to help educate the people managing the site. Someone never having any exposure to it that rents a hammock and has a bad experience due to lack of proper instructions from the staff there would be ruined on the whole concept. And the park might shut down the trial instead of growing it, without enough positive feedback. Every good review that the site can get will go towards state and even federal increased support. Can you imagine every park in the nation having hammock sites available?

I talked to my son-in-law before the trip so he knew what to kind of expect. But, when we arrived to to site I had show him how to set up everything since he had now idea. In the end he enjoyed the trip and slept well. He did comment that he got a bit cold about 4am but it wasn't to horrible even if it rained in the middle of the night and the temps dropped a bit. Overall he said that he would do it again and would be more prepared than he was this time.
This trip really shows that if the state parks are going to set up more camp sites for hangers and rent the hammocks for use like they have done here in Utah. They really need to have educated individuals managing the sites to teach the fundamentals. Also the gear needs several options (tarp, under-quilt, etc.) to be more than just a hammock to sleep in so the user doesn't have the CBS and has a great first time exposure to hammock camping. Also, I feel that the sites need to set up so that a tarp/rain fly could also be deployed depending on the weather. In the video clip, the site didn't seem to accommodate setup options like that. It would be still nice to hear Crazytown3's report later on after he uses the campground. I am thinking on trying out this campground sometime next year since my trips are already planned. Honestly, this is a step in a great direction to work with hammock campers. FYI I have seen photos of other parks in the US that have setups for hammocks too.
Here are some photos from this trip (follow link).
