    Lineville Gorge First Timer..

Hey gang! Thinking of a last minute trip to the linville gorge for a couple nights. Any administrative tasks I need to do, to be able to hike and hang the hammock?

Saw on the website something about a permit...?

    Any instruction would be appreciated!

    Thanks in advance!

Yup, you need a permit for weekends and holidays during the summer. I was out there during the Independence Day long weekend, but since I went on a Monday, I didn't need a permit. Call the USFS Grandfather Ranger District for more info at (828) 652-2144.

Caveat- you can still hike the Gorge and camp w/o a permit as long as you are outside of the designated Wilderness area. There's a 2 lane road on the west side that apparently has sites that don't require a permit.

Your absolute BEST bet is to go to the Linville Gorge forums at linvillegorge.net and ask away. They have a wealth of info and maps that will tell you just about everything you need to know about the gorge. Make sure you get the .pdf map of the gorge and all the campsites. You'll have to register to get access, but these guys know their stuff- GREAT resource!

(PS- I see your RLTW and raise you a wreath )

Thanks for the input jumpmaster! I will definitely head over to their forums and get all of the required documents that will aid in a successful mission! Always have to do those "PCC & PCI's" before heading out the gate...lol!

Haha, you saw that did you and much appreciated!

I assume you are also a fellow paratrooper since you go by "jumpmaster" so, AIRBORNE!
