Proper pad lay? Wings vs wide vs normal

I am not interested in getting an UQ at the moment and would like to try to find a way to make pads work for me.

My question is simple. I know that the recommended technique for a normal pad is just to try to lay the pad diagonally and keep it in place until you pin it down with your body.

    For wings:
I haven't tried these yet, do you still lay the pad diagonally or do the wings make it so you can lay the pad straight and sleep diagonally across it, solving the pad shifting issue?

For those who connect two pads side by side to make extra wide ones:
Is the point of this so you can basically lay it dead center and not have to worry about keeping the pad in a certain place, or do you still try to keep your pad diagonally?

    Thanks!

Sorry I can't offer any suggestions as your questions are the very reason I abandoned using pads in gathered end hammocks. It's hard enough to keep on an angle as it is then throw a pad in the scenario and it became impossible for me to stay on the pad and on a diagonal. A double layer gathered end hammock helps some but a bridge hammock cures all of the issues.

I would still go at the angle with wings as well. Better flatter lay.

    Great video, thanks Shug!

And thanks slug as well, will look in to the double and bridge hammocks to see if that is something I could potentially want.

I've been trying a blue pad in my double WBBB XLC and like Shug says it takes me a few in/out of the hammock to get it right but it seems to stay in place pretty good. Now I haven't spent the night in the hammock with the pad cuz it's been triple digit heat index here, the pad is way to hot to sleep on.

After I get in a good spot with it, I think trimming the foot corner off and the head corner off closest to the edge of the hammock might help some but I haven't done that yet. Nor have I added the wings. When the temp starts dropping and I actually need the pad in place I'll get a better feel for what I need to do.

I think it just takes some playing around with to see what's going to work for you.

    Good luck.

If you have minimal DIY skills and a s sewing machine, try this:

That's really nice. Thanks for the suggestion. I may try that once I get better at it.
